To See a Thousand Miles

Ruan Ye regretted not joining the jianghu sooner. If she’d known it was this lively, she would definitely have talked Qiao Buyi into sneaking out of He Valley with her ahead of time. She could wander around the market when there was nothing to do, check out the excitement at martial arts tournaments when she had time, occasionally rob the rich to help the poor in the countryside, and use any spare cash to start a little “specialty” business. I’m warning you, Qiao Buyi: even if your features are as gentle as an immortal’s, don’t think you can boss me around just because you’re a bit of a pretty face. And you, Young Master Chao, who appeared out of nowhere: I’m friends with your younger sister Ziluo, but you and I barely know each other. Oh, right. I almost forgot that I left home on an important errand. My father has no known qualities other than being very handsome. And my childhood friend Axu, with his bright smile: I wonder where he is now, ten years later. This is bad, this is bad. The jianghu is so vast, finding someone will be incredibly difficult. Yet as the events of the past slowly come to light, and everything reveals its true nature, those childhood words, “To see a thousand miles, climb higher,” seem to have been a prophecy. That is how fate can be: no matter how long you spent gazing into the distance as a child, you could never glimpse what lay ahead. Truly, you may climb high enough to see a thousand miles, yet still be unable to see so many years into the future.
