A Dream in the Bamboo Creek

This is a rural marriage novel. In an era when sons were valued over daughters, especially in the unenlightened countryside, her husband’s longing for a son placed enormous pressure on Shuzhuang and left her feeling inferior. So when she discovered that the rumors of her husband’s betrayal were true, she could only suppress the turmoil of conflicting emotions and adopt the child of her rival, a living scar that left her heart deeply wounded, in order to save her marriage. Her seemingly magnanimous forgiveness saved the marriage and won her husband back, but the child’s very existence was a constant reminder of his infidelity, eroding her faith in him moment by moment. Unable to truly let go, her resentment showed in the way she treated her husband. Though he felt guilty and tried desperately to make amends, he could never overcome the demons that Shuzhuang could not shake. In the end, the truth came to light, and Shuzhuang was finally defeated by her own demons and set on the path to self-destruction.
