Starlight Over the Capital at Night

People are always saying that West Capital’s Seventh Route never lacks for talent. - Wen Yunzhao and Chu Chen, hailed as the dream mixed-doubles pair, have taken silver several times. Meng Jingzhe, hailed as the iron-blooded first singles player, once went months without winning a championship. Wen Yunzhao and Qin Jia, hailed as twin stars, could only have one of them stand on the singles gold-medal podium. This road has never been easy, but we’re determined to make something of ourselves. - Meng Jingzhe, with his back injury flaring up, stood across from the foreign team and refused to give an inch. Point by point, he fought back to level the score and ultimately claimed the championship. Wen Yunzhao, with her knee injured and covered in kinesiology tape, still joined Chu Chen to win the doubles gold. Qin Jia, racing from one match to the next, did her best to leave nothing to regret, never give up, and stay true to herself. - Someone once asked Qin Jia whether she resented being called one of the twin stars alongside Wen Yunzhao. At the time, Wen Yunzhao had just beaten her to win the singles gold. Under the reporter’s gaze, Qin Jia turned to look at Wen Yunzhao. “No. I’m glad she’s my opponent, and not someone else. It makes no difference which of us wins the gold.” On this court, no one cares how hard your journey was. Everyone gives it everything they have, and only the result can truly command respect. The nights on West Capital’s Seventh Route are long, but when you finally make it through and look up, the stars will know where you came from. - Later, someone asked Meng Jingzhe if it bothered him that so many people shipped Wen Yunzhao and Chu Chen as a doubles team. He thought for a moment, then turned to look. The two of them were holding their doubles trophy. “That’s fine. Off the court, all I need is for her to be mine.” They had grown up together as childhood sweethearts. Even when they each pursued their own sporting careers and training kept them apart, it was all right. Because in the end, we’ll meet again at the summit. Later, the two got engaged. When Chu Chen saw this interview, he looked utterly disgusted. “So what? You still have to call me Brother Chen, just like Youzi does!”
