Fallen into the Underworld, I Forgot You

I became pregnant with the King of Hell's child, but he rewrote my name in the Book of Life and Death. He said I wasn't his true wife. That was the little maid who had spent a hundred years reincarnating through the animal realm, the one he'd searched for across a thousand years. He resented me for taking the place of his beloved, sent me into the cycle of reincarnation, and made me suffer until I had atoned for all my sins. As my soul was about to dissipate, he appeared with his arm affectionately around the little maid's waist and asked if I knew what I'd done wrong. I nodded, smiling through bloody tears. I was wrong to have loved him so much in my past life, and wrong not to have stayed away from him in this one. So before I left for good, I willingly drank Meng Po's soup and chose to forget him forever. I would forget the thousand years I had waited for him, his ten-thousand-year vow, and the promises we'd made in every lifetime. Never again would we meet, in this world or the next! But after he watched me vanish into nothing with his own eyes, he went mad.
