The Day I Died of Old Age, I Was Reborn

I died peacefully of old age on my eightieth birthday, while my children wept inconsolably outside the door. My consciousness gradually faded. With my final breath, I looked at my wife, who had been by my side for decades and now had a head of white hair. Forcing a faint smile, I asked, “Shen Nian, tell me honestly. After all these years of marriage, did you ever truly love me?” The hesitation in her eyes gave me my answer. I said, “If I could live my life over, I would never love you again.” But to my surprise, when I opened my eyes, I really had returned to my youth. Before I could even get over the joy of being reborn, Shen Nian appeared before me again, though she should have been making a marriage alliance with someone else. Seeing the terror on my face, she grinned broadly and grabbed me by the collar. “Xu Huai'an, why did you have to die so soon? I hadn't answered your question yet.”
