The Shroud Model

A year and a half after giving up her recommendation for graduate school and riding the wave of the times into a major internet company, Hong Xinqiao is forced to leave when the company makes sweeping layoffs. But she doesn't dare tell her parents. She searches for a long time, hoping to find a job that will maintain the high salary she earned in the tech industry, but comes up empty-handed. One day, she happens to pass a “clothing store” and is drawn to the traditional Hanfu displayed in its window. She also spots a hiring notice posted outside. The pay seems decent, but when she looks into it, she discovers that the store sells burial clothes. With few other options, she takes up the trade. “How hard can selling clothes be?” She never expected that the fear of dealing with the dead, society's judgment, her family's opposition, and competition from new funeral companies would all challenge the quiet, predictable life she had led for more than twenty years. And yet, behind every burial garment lies an unexpected story, one that touches her tender heart. No. 89 Shiheng Road is the final stop on life's journey, and the first stop on her path to understanding life's mysteries.
