The Idle Empress Plays Dumb, and Her Ministers Beg Her to Hold Court Every Day

The laid-back Xie Lanqing transmigrated to ancient times. It didn’t take long for her to realize that she was nothing more than a puppet emperor, while the real power rested with the eunuch Song Zhaoyan. The ministers couldn’t accept a eunuch running the country, or an empress who refused to apply herself. So today, one minister wept and pleaded, “Your Majesty! Please pay more attention to state affairs!” Tomorrow, another smashed his head against a pillar. “Your Majesty! Please try harder!” Watching over a country that was running like clockwork, the laid-back empress rolled over and went right back to sleep. “No one’s going to interrupt me while I slack off!” Song Zhaoyan held power over the entire court, standing above everyone else. He had planned to kill the troublesome Xie Lanqing once everything was settled, then take the throne for himself. But Xie Lanqing started pretending to be crazy and foolish. She stopped attending court and reviewing memorials, determined to live a life of leisure. At first, Song Zhaoyan thought she really was stupid, and that having a puppet emperor wasn’t so bad. In the end, Song Zhaoyan personally taught her how to govern the country, then broke down and pleaded, “Your Majesty, please try harder!” Then Xie Lanqing’s secret identity was exposed, and everyone discovered that the famed master of the Qingfeng Pavilion, who punished evil and upheld justice, was none other than the empress! Question: Did Her Majesty apply herself today? Answer: She secretly did.
