As the Court's Castoff, I Don't Have Enough Secret Identities

The world is a chessboard, and people are its pieces. One day, to secure victory, the player sacrificed a pawn at the edge of the board, sending it to its death. When the game was over, he congratulated himself, convinced he had mastered every situation and held the world in the palm of his hand. Surely the world would look up to him, and his name would live forever.

He soon forgot the discarded pawn. Who would remember a pawn they had sacrificed?

But that pawn had ideas of its own.

“If you don’t know how to play, then stop playing.”

As he spoke, he flipped the chessboard, then overturned the entire table.

…

“Who are you, really? Where did all those identities come from?”

“Just a nameless pawn. No need to ask.”
