The Boy and the Bird by the Qingshui River

"Cormorant Crossing" takes the Qingshui River in the 1950s as the stage, and outlines a picture of fishermen about inheritance and survival.​ In the Li family, cormorants are not only a fishing tool, but also a memory flowing in their blood. Ever since their ancestors hatched the first chick from a hen, these black-feathered waterbirds have become part of the family, witnessing the ups and downs of generations on the river. They are the most powerful helpers of fishermen. The moment their sharp beak cuts through the water, they can always pick up the silver scales that sustain their livelihood. The sound of splashing water one after another on the side of the boat is the longest song on the riverside.​ However, the tide of the times is gradually coming, and when modern fishing gear slowly replaces traditional fishing methods, the Li family is faced with a dilemma: continue to feed the cormorants, and the daily rations and energy investment make their already tight life worse; but if this bond is cut off, the fishing and hunting skills passed down from their ancestors, and the tacit understanding between people and waterfowls will all disappear with the flow of the Qingshui River.​ The work follows the eyes of young Li Gu and unfolds the thousand-year bond between cormorants and fishermen. Amidst the pressure of survival and the torn apart of cultural heritage, the work explores the final destination of those black-feathered elves and the children of fishermen - will tradition bow its head in the face of reality, or will ancient skills find a glimmer of life in the cracks of the times? Every cormorant cry along the Qingshui River asks for answers about persistence and change.
