Meeting at the Harbor in Mist and Snow

Shen Shiyu, the second son of Hong Kong's most powerful family, is cold-blooded, calculating, and puts profit above all else. Shu Ti was bewitched by him and brazenly trespassed into his private domain. Shen Shiyu lowered his head to flick ash from the cigarette between his fingers, looking at the woman who had exchanged flirtatious glances with him onstage. “You came to me on your own?” “Yes.” “What do you want?” “You.” From then on, their tangled relationship was all for the sake of winning his willing devotion. At first, he warned her more than once: “Don't cross the line. Don't make a mess of things. Romance takes the fun out of it.” But Shu Ti still couldn't help falling deeper, until she heard him say, “It's just for fun. Why take it seriously?” In an instant, all the flirtation faded and the curtain fell. Shu Ti left of her own accord. Later, news of Shen Shiyu's engagement flooded the internet, and Shu Ti went abroad to clear her head. A friend asked if she could accept it. She replied, “What difference does it make if I can't? He'll marry and have children, then forget me. It's only a matter of time.” A year later, Shu Ti returned to Hong Kong after being nominated for Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards. That night, the instant she looked up, the night sky above Victoria Harbour glittered like diamonds, and streams of artificial shooting stars streaked across the horizon in a dazzling display. Shen Shiyu pulled her into his arms and kissed her again and again, his breathing utterly ragged. “All my life, I've been striving to get ahead. How ridiculous. You were the real goal all along.” *A gentleman's actions, not his intentions, are what count. Reading guide: 1.
