Tracing Back to the Glorious Ancestors

The novel is divided into two parts. The first half uses Han Guangzong's death as a clue to explain that Han Guangzong was born into the Han family, a wealthy family, but he was not born to Han Shimin, the head of the Han family, but to his mother Qiao Xiu and Gao Liu'er, a handyman of the Han family. Qiao Xiu originally thought that by climbing the big tree of the Han family, she could change the fate of herself and her children. Unexpectedly, because of her empathic relationship, the Han family was destroyed. After Han Guangzong came of age, he went to the city to make a living, but accidentally returned to his hometown and embarked on the path of being a slave to his biological father, Gao Liu'er. Later, due to the breakdown of the relationship between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Han Guangzong was involved. After witnessing the arrest and murder of his "Communist" workers, he fled the provincial capital and later married a wife and started a family. The peaceful days did not last long. After the Japanese invaded China, Han Guangzong was brutally arrested and became a hard laborer driven by the Japanese. His wife Gao Huilan also died in childbirth... The second half of the novel uses Hu Yaozu as a clue. It tells the story of Hu Yaozu's famine years. In order to save the lives of his family, he drove his three young sons, Defu, Delu and Deshou, to flee the famine and beg for food. Because of his mistrust of others, Defu, Delu and Desu were killed. Shou suffered a lot on his way out of famine, which planted the seeds of resentment in the hearts of his three sons. As a result, in that era of raising children for old age, although Hu Yaozu had four sons, Fu, Lu, Shou and Xi, his life was still unsatisfactory and he lived a humble and pitiful life.
