The Cat, the Detective, and the City of Yore

Why did the seafood from the barbecue restaurant run away overnight? Why did the pale sky suddenly turn into an ocean? What could be lurking in the fog, beyond all comprehension?

In this bizarre world, time and calendars are all mixed up, the laws of physics are unfathomable, and the residents don’t seem quite right either.

As the only normal person left in the world, Joey, a “missing-item detective,” feels like every morning is Groundhog Day. He never knows just how absurd and bizarre the next case he takes on will be.

Tired of feeling like an outsider, Joey decides to hire an assistant, so he puts up a notice outside his office.

[Help Wanted: Our firm is looking for a maid (crossed out) assistant to help the detective find lost items, investigate infidelity, solve criminal cases, and probe things beyond all comprehension. Salary negotiable. Applicants who can type and read a calendar preferred.]

After putting up the notice, Joey felt something tugging at his pant leg.

He turned around and found a little ball of fluff huddled by his leg.

“Can I be your assistant?” The stray cat Joey often fed was right by his feet. It eagerly kneaded the ground with its paws, then spoke in a timid human voice. “I’m really good at this!”

In short, this is a story about a detective and his cat assistant, a devoted cat owner and his feline companion, helping clients find lost things and solve mysterious cases in a bizarre city ruled by ancient deities.
