The Book of Gong Jin's Flourishing Years: Xiao Qiao's Wedding

I recall Gongjin in those days, when Little Qiao had just married him.

Zhou Yu, courtesy name Gongjin, was a renowned general of Eastern Wu. This book recounts his deeds from Jian'an 4 to Jian'an 5. During these nearly two years, Zhou Yu followed Sun Ce in pacifying Jiangdong, defeated Huang Zu and Liu Xun, and met the peerlessly beautiful Qiao sisters. Sun Ce married Da Qiao, and Zhou Yu wed Xiao Qiao. The road was winding, but the ending was a happy one.

Song of Peace and Tranquility: A Clear Moon and Lofty Virtue, A Memorial to Zhou Yu

The chill of early spring in the third month; wild geese fly high, returning north. The withered grass at Baqiu lies scattered like snow, among a few old bricks from Jiangdong.

A thousand years on, your name is still remembered, though your great ambition went unfulfilled. At Red Cliffs, sails were dwarfed by clouds as they blocked the river; Little Qiao was playing the paulownia zither.

Mr. Huang Weide's portrayal of Zhou Yu in New Three Kingdoms inspired me in a torrent. This book is grounded in historical records and offers a fresh interpretation of its characters, wholly different from Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
