His Highness Is a Coroner

A highly skilled detective noble heir has arrived in Hanyuan County. After being demoted, the young lord finds it hard to adjust to a life of frugality, so he has no choice but to return to his old line of work and make a living solving cases with his particular talents. The county magistrate comes to him for help with a case. “How much this time?” The magistrate pats his money pouch, wincing at the thought of the expense. “The evidence is here. I won’t be attending the trial, so settle the bill with my steward when you get a chance.” The magistrate doesn’t even get the chance to negotiate. He can only nod quickly. But one day, he meets Yan Huanhuan. “Your Highness, please help me clear my name.” “How much?” “I’ll work like an ox or a horse to repay you.” “How much?” “I’ll become your servant.” “...How much?” “I’ll give myself to you...” “Impudent!” The young lord looks frail and delicate, but seems impossible to tame. Yan Huanhuan can’t help wondering what he would be like if he ever fell in love. After all, piles of white bones and rotting corpses can’t even make him raise an eyebrow. Could someone like him ever fall for a woman? Only later does Yan Huanhuan learn that this young lord, who looks sickly and frail, is the pillar holding up the empire. He purges treacherous ministers for the emperor and clears the late emperor’s name, turning the tide when he himself is on the verge of death. The closer she gets to him, the more she sees the light within him. He saves her from a wrongful conviction, takes her in when she has no one to turn to, and guides her when she is still naive and ignorant. He is so wonderful, wonderful in every way. The only problem is that he doesn’t love her.
