Zhou Yu (175-210), courtesy name Gongjin, was born in Shu County, Lujiang County (southwest of today's Lujiang County, Anhui Province). [8] A famous general in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, he was the son of Luoyang Ling Zhou Yi, his grandfather Zhou Jing, and his uncle Zhou Zhong, both of whom rose to the rank of Taiwei. He had a good relationship with Sun Ce when he was young. At the age of 21, he followed Sun Ce to the battlefield to pacify Jiangdong. Later, Sun Ce was assassinated and Sun Quan succeeded him. He led the troops to the funeral and took charge of everything together with the chief historian Zhang Zhao as the Central Protector. In the thirteenth year of Jian'an (208 years), he led his army to join forces with Liu Bei and defeated Cao Cao in the Battle of Chibi, thus laying the foundation for the "three-part world". He also led his army to defeat Cao Ren and worshiped the partial general as the governor of Nanjun. According to the official history, Zhou Yu was "a magnificent character" and "a real genius". Sun Quan praised Zhou Yu for having "the qualifications of a king", and Fan Cheng praised him as "a heroic man in the world and a romantic and beautiful husband on the left side of the Yangtze River". During the reign of Emperor Huizong of the Song Dynasty, he was honored as Ping Lupp. Ranked among the sixty-four generals of the Tang Wumiao Temple and one of the seventy-two generals of the Song Wumiao Temple. He died of illness in Baqiu in the 15th year of Jian'an (210 years) at the age of 36.
