The Lament of Lianchang Palace

In her old age, Empress Wu Zetian dreamed that a golden-armored divine general brought her a baby girl and said, “This daughter of the Wu family will save the Wu clan.” As Wu Zetian lay dying, she asked Shangguan Wan’er to take the girl to the Daming Palace to be raised. Though grown-up Zhenzhen possessed beauty enough to topple kingdoms, she was soft, silly, dazed, and adorable, with nothing about her suggesting she could save the Wu clan. At the time, Li Longji was still Prince of Linzi. He looked at the soft, dumpling-like Zhenzhen with disdain and snorted, “I will never get involved with a woman from the Wu family!” But before long, he swallowed those words and admitted she was simply irresistible. What could he do? She was his cousin, so he could only spoil her!
