Happiness Will Come Knocking

An old man in a straw cape and bamboo hat fishes alone amid the snow on a cold river. Jiang Xue, 30, teaches Japanese at a foreign languages school. Just as she is about to marry, she is diagnosed with tuberculosis. Her boyfriend breaks up with her, her colleagues discriminate against her, her family misunderstands her, and her friends shun her. One blow after another sends Jiang Xue plunging into an abyss, where she is cut off from the light, her body and soul dead, and her life hanging by a thread. Xu Zhou, 35, was diagnosed with AIDS several years ago. He cut ties with his family and friends of his own accord, spending every day hiding in dark corners. A living corpse, he drags himself through life in despair, unable to let go, barely clinging to life, battered and silent. The two meet during a follow-up appointment and gradually become friends. They find hope in carrying on and feel the warmth of human connection. From then on, they encourage and support each other as they face illness, discrimination, and hardship together. In the end, the light of hope drives away the clouds of despair. Through hell and back, they are reborn in the flames, and happiness will come knocking.
