During the Ming Dynasty, Peacock Villa and Phoenix Villa each occupied a mountain along the coast. They made a living by ferry business and set up monuments as boundaries. Anyone who crossed the boundary would die. They had always been at odds. Later, Fenghuang Villa was falsely accused by Yan Shifan, a traitor in the imperial court, as a place for liaison with Japanese pirates. He vowed to eradicate Fenghuang and then destroy Peacock.
