The Mountains and Rivers Lie Forever Silent

Synopsis: A lifetime of peace is precious, but without that person's company, what does peace even mean? On the night of the fifteenth day of the second month in the thirteenth year of Yongde, a palace coup erupted. The Empress's relative Shen Fu finally succeeded in obtaining the tiger tally through deceit. He immediately took command of a hundred thousand troops and marched straight into the palace, his iron cavalry crushing the dreams of the capital. It was said that the sun and moon changed that day, while fierce winds howled without pause. Then the heavens suddenly shifted, and by the time everyone realized what had happened, the Eldest Princess had vanished. Ye Zhizhen was jolted awake by the carriage. She heard rustling behind her and jumped, whipping around to look. There she found an exceptionally elegant man dressed in white. He smiled at Ye Zhizhen and said, “Greetings, Eldest Princess. Please forgive me for being unable to rise and pay my respects, as my legs are infirm.” Her memories remained fixed on the day of the coup. In her desperation, she had run to seek help from her senior brother, who had always supported her, only to be refused by her master. When she returned to the palace, she realized it was already a river of blood. In the vast palace, there was no sound but screams. “Have you forgotten, Eldest Princess? Someone entrusted you to me...” He paused, then continued, “ entrusted you to my care.” Ye Zhizhen bit her lip. After a long moment, she let out a quiet, bitter laugh. “He was quite something. He refused my request, yet still saved me.” At this, the man on the other side sighed, his expression unreadable. She sat in a daze for a while, then looked up and met his clear eyes. She paused, then said softly, “I’m no longer an Eldest Princess. You can call me Yezi or A-Zhen. What about you? What’s your name?” “I am... Su Yongji of the Northern Frontier.”
