A Consort's Guide to Self-Improvement

When Meng Yuanyuan wakes up one day, she discovers she's become a disposable character in a novel who doesn't survive past the first few chapters. So her greatest wish in life is to make it to ninety-nine.

She sticks close to the heroine, gets along with the other consorts, and stays away from the scumbag emperor. Her days are going wonderfully, and she's even become the consorts' relationship adviser.

“Concubine Meng, why won't the emperor even look me in the eye?” Lady Qi comes to complain.

“Your looks are average, your manners are average, and your talents are average. Why would the emperor look at you? You need something that stands out, you know? You have to catch his eye!”

“Concubine Meng, I get so nervous whenever I see the emperor. I don't know how to start a conversation with him. What should I do?” Lady Yun is troubled.

“Men like a little mystery. When you run out of things to say, just stop talking. Keep your cool and wait for him to ask you something. Don't be a doormat. The more you fawn over him, the more pathetic you look!”

“Concubine Meng, the emperor clearly loves seeing the consorts dressed in pink. So why doesn't he like it when I wear it?” The empress humbly asks for advice.

“Pink is a youthful color. How old are you now? Besides, an empress should be dignified and poised. Why are you copying the consorts by wearing pink?”

Meng Yuanyuan cracks a melon seed and waves her little hand. “Next!”

A tall figure strides in, a cool smile curling across his handsome face. “I would like Concubine Meng to demonstrate in person how to be a favored consort.”
