The Lanterns Glow Over the Splendid Palace

The brash and free-spirited second daughter of the Sui family has always loved her freedom. But for the sake of someone dear to her, she resolutely heads to the border to serve as a military strategist. Three years later, a letter arrives from the Sui family. With the lives of a hundred members of her clan hanging in the balance, she is ordered home to clean up the mess her elder sister left behind. She must take part in the following year’s Spring Selection. The Spring Selection is rife with ambushes and danger. To survive, she plans her every move and repeatedly reveals her brilliance, drawing the attention of several factions eager to claim her. Faced with a conspiracy that comes out of nowhere, will she submit or fight back? One is the young general who has long held her heart; the other is the Crown Prince, who repeatedly pulls her from the mire when she finds herself in danger. Which path should she choose? “General, I hope you live a worry-free hundred years.” When she learned she would be going to the Spring Selection, she said this to He Yu. What she didn’t know was that the greatest regret of the general she cherished was that he hadn’t confessed his feelings sooner and drawn her into his arms. “Your Highness, I remember that we’ve never met. You keep saving me from danger. What are you after?” “I’m not after anything. I just thought you seemed clever, so saving you was no trouble. But if I had to say I wanted something…” “Then I suppose I’ll just have to want… you.” [Dear readers, don’t let my blurb mislead you!]
