I Don’t Want to Be a Favored Consort

“Yaojia, for the sake of the family and your younger brother, go into the palace!” Her stepmother spoke gently, but her eyes were cold.

“Why should I enter the palace for someone else?”

“The imperial palace is the richest place in the land. Don't you like pretty things? In there, you can have the most honored husband and enjoy the finest clothes and food... You can also make everyone in the family respect and fear you...”

“They'll respect and fear you, you mean! If I go in, I might never see anyone from the family again before I die...”

“Every woman who has feelings for the former crown prince, I will take into my palace!”

(Feelings for whom? What does that have to do with me? Even the emperor can't control my heart.)
