Little Left Ear

There are many kinds of love in this world: the love between family, the love between lovers, and the love between friends. Yet so often, we don’t know how to love someone, or even how to love ourselves. The stirrings of love in this world are no more than plum soup served in white porcelain in the height of summer, with crushed ice clinking against the sides. Xiang Zuo is a sincere, dutiful “uncle,” while Xiao Er is an innocent, romantic girl. A simple promise, “Starting today, I’ll make sure you eat properly,” begins their journey together, a Left Ear adventure. Their time together isn’t filled with romantic dates like a couple’s; instead, they share a greater sense of hope and anticipation for the future. The most beautiful love is growing from black hair to white, a devotion and a promise to protect each other without ever letting go. It has nothing to do with money or worldly conventions. All you can wish for is that the person holding your hand stays healthy and happy. Xiang Zuo says: “Aside from my family, you’re the person who loves me most. I might regret leaving you someday, but for my family’s sake, I could stay unmarried for the rest of my life.” Xiao Er says: “Waiting is the most humiliating thing in the world. From now on, I won’t wait, and I won’t make anyone else wait for me. I don’t covet your fame or your money, but I do covet your love, the promise that we’ll be together, just the two of us, for all our lives.”
