Unaware of the Evening's Intent

Word has it that Third Young Master Yi has fallen for a woman three years older than him. Everyone laughs at Third Young Master Yi's unusual tastes. He doesn't like fresh grass, but prefers old grass. Third Young Master Yi replies carelessly, “I've got good teeth. What, are you jealous?” * Word has it that the woman three years older than Third Young Master Yi isn't exactly a respectable woman, either. Third Young Master Yi's father is so furious he threatens to break his son's legs. “The Yi family has always been respectable. There's no way we can have a daughter-in-law with a shady past. In ancient times, she'd be a bandit queen.” Third Young Master Yi shoots back, “If she can kidnap me and make me her bandit husband, I'd be delighted.” * Word has it that the woman three years older than Third Young Master Yi, the bandit queen, is also a widow whose husband died. The whole Yi family is thrown into chaos, and their entire social circle is in an uproar. “I hear Third Young Master Yi wants to pick up a pair of worn-out shoes, old and impossible to clean.” When the words reach Third Young Master Yi, he knocks out one of the speaker's teeth without a word. Everyone says Third Young Master Yi has gone crazy, so bewitched by a pair of old, dirty shoes that he's lost his mind. * Word has it that Third Young Master Yi's father invoked family discipline and broke one of his son's arms. Word has it that Old Master Yi was so enraged that his eyes rolled back and he was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Word has it that Third Young Master Yi declared he'd marry no one but that woman, and his father was so furious he threatened to disown him. Third Young Master Yi waves a hand with carefree confidence. “If I can't marry Yu Xiangwan, I'll stop being an Yi. I'll leave the Yi family and take the surname Yu!”
