She is ordinary and warmhearted; he is handsome and cold-blooded. When fate brings them together, one glance in a crowd is all it takes for him to enter her sight and settle in her heart.
One glance, one lifetime. One heart, one person. Even a thousand years between them cannot stop her from wanting to protect him.
Her long black hair turns silver, each strand piercing her heart. How can she comfort the anguish that fills his eyes? His lonely childhood was built on nothing but lies. How can she help him forget?
Will her selfless devotion and his steadfast protection be enough to break the shackles of fate?
Excerpt 1:
“It’s beautiful, such an exquisite guzheng. Do you want to play it here?”
“Yes. I want to play a song for you. Would you like to hear it?”
“I would, of course.”
The melody winds and lingers like music from heaven. Closing her eyes to listen, she recalls the beautiful times they spent protecting one another, carried along by the music’s lilting notes.
The song ends, but its lingering echoes remain. She can’t bear to open her eyes, wanting to hold on to the flowing melody a little longer. In the heavenly music, she can feel the love that belongs to him alone, a deep and restrained devotion.
Time is like a beautiful melody: it eventually fades, but the precious memories left deep in the heart can never be erased.
Excerpt 2:
“Why are you so stubborn?”
“I promised you that no matter what happened, I would always protect you. I would never leave you.”
“What is it about me that you love?”
“Everything about you. Your sorrows and your joys.”
“Even if everything you say is true, so what? I’ve forgotten you. That’s all there is to it.”
“Although you’ve forgotten me, you’re still etched into my life. The beautiful memories we shared keep replaying in my mind. How could I possibly let them go?”
“Even if you tore your heart out for me now, nothing would change. I don’t love you anymore.”
She stares in the direction where he disappeared, then sinks dejectedly onto the cold ground. Clutching her aching chest, she weeps uncontrollably.
He rubs his chest and murmurs to himself, “Why does an empty heart hurt so much?”
He desperately searches for the missing memories, until his head feels like it will burst, but in the end he finds nothing.
This is a one-couple story, with one man and one woman together for life. I hope you enjoy it, thank you.
