A carefully arranged encounter turned her life upside down like a nightmare. She fell for the man who made her feel safe. For him, she threw herself at him like a moth to a flame, trying everything she could, all because she wanted him to fall in love with her.
They say it’s like crossing mountains for a man to pursue a woman, but like parting a veil for a woman to pursue a man. In reality, it’s not that easy. Only at the very end will you understand.
He was a man as cold as an iceberg, and she was determined to become a hot-water bottle and melt him, no matter what. After going through all kinds of hardships, she finally understood, when she was exhausted in body and mind, that they belonged to two different worlds. She also learned a hard truth: even if a sparrow flies up to a branch, it can never stay long in that place called high society.
One sentence made her leave the city without hesitation. What would things be like when she returned?
Scene One
Gu’s father and mother looked curiously at the girl before them. She wasn’t embarrassed in the least. “Hello, Uncle and Auntie,” she said with easy grace. “My name is Lin Momo. I’m friends with Aaron.” Her lively eyes darted about, as if she were plotting something.
Such a lovely little girl was their son’s friend. Surely she was his girlfriend. The thought occurred to Gu’s father and mother at the same time, and they both examined Lin Momo closely.
His deep eyes took in his parents’ scrutinizing gazes. He was thoroughly annoyed that Lin Momo was making things up.
Scene Two
“That’s her. That’s Lin Momo, the one Lawyer Lin kicked out of the house.”
“No wonder she has no shame. She won’t stop clinging to Gu Yalun.”
“A sparrow hoping to fly up to a branch had better have some real tricks.”
At the lavish banquet, Lin Momo was as beautiful as a princess, but inside she trembled as she listened to the people around her sneer at her for reaching above her station.
A woman passed by and slapped her across the face without mercy. The woman gave a contemptuous laugh and mocked her: “A sparrow shouldn’t expect to fly up to a branch.”
That scornful look stung her eyes. She fled in a miserable panic, escaping the place that only rich people were allowed to enter.
Scene Three
The room was icy cold. Murong Chen’s cruel eyes held a warning. “You brought this on yourself. Blame yourself for trying to marry into the Murong family.”
The eyes that had once sparkled with life now glinted with hatred. She hated him. Curled up in a corner, she silently shed tears, daring not to say a word. The chill seeped into her heart, leaving her freezing all over.
“If you want to live, get out of the Murong family now.” The cold, merciless words echoed through the bedroom. Murong Chen turned away without a trace of compassion, his tall figure radiating ruthlessness.
Scene Four
After transforming herself and returning, she was no longer the person she used to be. She was as noble as a queen. Four years later, when she met him again, she smiled brightly. “I’m sorry, you’ve mistaken me for someone else.” Her voice was cool, and a hint of mockery lay hidden in her lively eyes.
His palm trembled slightly. His deep eyes concealed an intense longing. “Momo, is it really you?”
“I’m sorry, you’ve mistaken me for someone else,” she said again with a faint smile, her tone cool. Then her graceful figure turned away.
This is the third book in the Born Queen series: the heroine’s coming-of-age story. A heartwarming, doting romance with a touch of angst, plenty of handsome men along the way, and one couple in the end. Please enjoy! If you’re reading, remember to add it to your favorites!
