He is the heir to the Gu Group, a born winner who can strategize from afar and turn the tide with a wave of his hand.
She is a young gang girl, a streetwise hooligan who has also scraped by in the world of nightlife, a woman of the streets who lets others buy her company.
One is a star in the heavens, the other mud on the ground.
Yet fate keeps bringing them together, again and again. Will fate truly show them mercy, or is this just another cruel joke masquerading as something else?
Excerpt one
“You like me, don't you?” she said, closing in on him with a mischievous smile until she had him backed into a corner.
“Don't come so close.” His face flushed red as he gently pushed her away a little, putting some distance between them.
“How about you give me a kiss, and I'll be your girlfriend? It's rare for you to like me, so I'll make a sacrifice.” She kept moving closer. So what?
She didn't believe he would actually dare kiss her. How could a good student like him do something like that?
But he really did dare, kissing her until her head was spinning.
So this was the legendary case of teasing and getting teased back, of trying to steal a chicken and losing the rice instead. Wasn't he supposed to be a good student? How could a good student do something like that?
Excerpt two
“Mr. Gu, you're really in a hurry. You can't even wait to finish your drink. But you'll still have to pay for it. I opened a good bottle to entertain you, and I can't afford to cover the cost with what I earn selling my body.” She gently slipped out of his grasp and deftly undid his tie, then his shirt. A smile that could melt you to the bone stayed on her face, as if it were painted there, never reaching her heart.
He grabbed her hand, a trace of anger finally showing in his voice. “Lingling, do you really have to be like this?”
She pulled her hand back and straightened up. She looked at him without a flicker of emotion, her gaze so unfamiliar it seemed unreal. She simply looked at him in bewilderment.
Now she was a working girl, and he was her client. Nothing more!
Excerpt three
“Stay away from Zichen. You're not good enough for him. Name your price.” Mrs. Gu spoke to her imperiously.
“Mrs. Gu, this amount is nothing to your family. I'm a lowlife with nothing to lose. I'm not stupid enough to give up Gu Zichen, my cash cow, for a little money. Besides, Zichen does whatever we say now. I can get anything I want. I'm not greedy, and I don't ask for much. Your family can certainly afford it. Besides, I've never planned on marrying into the Gu family. I'm still young, and I have plenty of time. No matter what happens, I'll probably outlive you and your husband. Things can change a lot in this world. Once you two are gone, you won't have to see me anymore.” She spoke calmly, stirring the coffee in front of her as she patiently explained the facts to Mrs. Gu.
“You...” Mrs. Gu stared at her in shock, at a loss for words.
