Wu Mei, the Farmer's Daughter

She was a bomb-disposal expert and demolitions specialist. One blast sent her straight to this “pigsty.” The house was bare, and there were far too many children. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine of them... No father, no food, no drink, no fields, no land, and no status at all!!! There were so many children in the family, and they were all boys except for her, the only girl??? The family was so poor that none of the boys could afford to marry. They had no food to fill their bellies or warm clothes to wear. They had already eaten everything edible, and every available room was full: the boys in one room and the girls in another. In winter, everyone had only one thin, patched coat. Just thinking about it was enough to make you cry. The whole family huddled around the heated brick bed to keep warm, enduring their hunger. Just imagining it was heartbreaking. So the first thing Wu Mei did after arriving in this world was make money, and then make more money. Determined to change her family's fate, she rallied them all to action. They went into business, built high-rises, and she led the whole family toward prosperity.
