Marrying a Farmer to Be Empress

I was once a daughter of the Feng family, but spent more than ten years living among common folk.

Poor and miserable, dark, skinny, and ugly.

No food? I’ll grow it myself. No money? Silver, get into my bowl!

When I returned, I had over a thousand acres of good farmland and more silver than I could count.

My father dotes on me, my half-sister is green with envy, and my stepmother wants to claim everything for herself.

Schemes swarm in from every direction. Let’s see how I pull off seventy-two transformations.

My good-for-nothing husband turns out to be the Crown Prince!

Damn it, can you stop pretending so much?

“Fine, then. How about marrying you, a farm wife, and making you my empress?”

All right. In my previous life, my career went well but my love life didn’t.

This time, I’ll have both love and success.

Scene One

“Wifey, why are you planting so much farmland and growing all these medicinal herbs? Your husband has plenty of money. You can use all the gold and silver in the country.” A certain man held up a jade pendant, looking smug.

A certain woman took it, played with it for a while, then threw it to the ground.

“Do you think I’m three years old? I asked all the major banks last time, and I couldn’t withdraw a single coin,” she said angrily.

“Wifey, don’t be mad. I’ll go work in the fields right now, all right? I’ll earn you lots of money.” The man picked up the pendant and wiped it clean. Good thing those people knew better. If they’d let a single word about his identity slip, he would have made them pay.

“Get lost. Go work in the fields.” How did I end up marrying such a braggart? The woman rubbed her forehead.

Scene Two

“By the Mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: The Feng family has a daughter of peerless beauty, virtuous and gracious. I have long admired her, and shall take her as my empress. The wedding shall be held on an auspicious date. So decreed.” Holding the imperial edict, the eunuch addressed the woman kneeling before him with utmost respect.

Of course he had to be respectful. This was the empress the Emperor cherished above all else. To show otherwise would be to throw his life away.

“Please tell His Majesty that I am grateful for his favor, but I am already married. I beg him to withdraw the edict.” The woman remained kneeling and refused to accept it. The Emperor had such strange taste. Everyone in the city knew she was married. How could he not know? And why would he make her his empress?

“His Majesty says your husband is good for nothing, so he permits you to divorce him and marry again.” The eunuch looked at her and relayed the Emperor’s decree with a fawning smile.

A flock of crows seemed to fly over the woman’s head. Was the Emperor openly trying to steal another man’s wife?

“I refuse. The royal family still owes me five million shi of grain and ten thousand jin of various medicinal herbs, and hasn’t paid for them. I’ll consider divorcing my husband once the debt is settled.”

“My dear wife, this isn’t up to you. I’ve just paid off what we owed for the grain and herbs. Will you agree to become my empress now?” A man in imperial yellow robes approached with a graceful air.

Hearing the familiar voice, Xiaoxiao smiled as she looked toward him.

“You bastard! How can it be you?” Who else could the man before her be but Shangguan Nantian?

“It’s me. Are you satisfied, my lady?”

“No! I want a divorce!” the woman cried in shock.

“It’s too late now!” The man hoisted her over his shoulder and strode toward the palace bedchamber.

The male and female leads are both pure in body and heart, and the story has a strictly one-to-one ending. Feel free to dive in!
