Name: The Book-Loving Empress
Author: Gu Xingling

Synopsis

Jin Ling'er has a gentle disposition that conceals a resilient spirit. She writes books and loves to read them. A car accident sends her soul traveling through time, where it inhabits the body of a beautiful but wicked empress. To make matters worse, the empress is her complete opposite: she hates books and flies into a rage whenever she sees one.

Helian Qi, the emperor of Dongqi, has a bewitchingly handsome face. He seems frail and scholarly, but is actually a master who keeps his abilities well hidden. Though he appears to be the prime minister's puppet, he has secretly built up his own faction and is preparing to seize power. He despises and resents his empress, but after one argument, she hangs herself and dies, only to come back to life. When she wakes, she is a completely different person, and he cannot help but investigate.

Zhan Feiyang is the prime minister's prized student, but secretly serves Helian Qi. He is the wicked empress's beloved, yet he sees her as a plague and avoids her whenever he can. But when she says she doesn't know him, he can't help wondering: has this wicked woman lost her memory?

Yan Yangfei is the master of the world's greatest fortress, with a library of ten thousand volumes. He never expected to attract the wicked empress's attention, but she isn't interested in him, only in his books. Furious and humiliated, he vows to make the empress fall in love with him and make the emperor a cuckold.

Shangguan Ba, emperor of Xixiong, is cold and calculating. After an unexpected encounter, he is captivated by a woman so immersed in her books that she loses track of time. From then on, he cannot tear himself away. To win her, he gathers the finest books in the land as bait, luring her to his side.

Sima Ao is handsome and arrogant, the crown prince of Lan. He believes he can charm any woman in the world, yet he loses to the woman who loves books more than life itself. In her eyes, books without a pulse are more valuable than he is, even though he is a crown prince. He refuses to accept defeat and insists on teasing her. So what if she's the empress of Dongqi? Whatever he wants, he will get, even if he has to take it by force.

Wei Suchen, prime minister of Dongqi, holds power over the entire court. When he learns that his beloved daughter has died and come back to life, he visits her in the dead of night, only to discover that she is no longer his daughter. He can no longer suppress his twisted obsession with her. That delicate, carefree figure has already driven him mad.

This story is slow-paced and takes its time to warm up. The word “book” runs through the entire story, so readers who aren't fond of that should proceed with caution!

The title alone makes it clear this is an empress story. If that doesn't interest you, proceed with caution!

There is only one true male lead. If you dislike stories that take time to get to the point, proceed with caution!
