Scientism originated in China and originated in modern times. The Sino-Japanese War of 1884-1894 made building scientific beliefs a common understanding among Chinese people. Since then, after the May 4th New Culture Movement, the continuation of the scientific school in the debate on science and metaphysics, and its marriage with mechanical materialism, the idea of ​​science has evolved from "instrument" to "tao" and has become the scientism that has dominated the field of Chinese thought for a century. It has had a complex, dynamic, deep-seated, and all-round influence on the construction of Chinese literary history in the 20th century. This book uses methods such as document analysis, empirical induction, and close reading of texts to conduct a systematic case study of Chinese literary history texts with scientism in the 20th century. It strives to have solid research, detailed historical materials, systematic views, and unique perspectives, in order to attract academic attention to the issue of scientism and the perspective of Chinese literary history in the 20th century.

This article selects eight topics that have had a certain influence in the field of Chinese literary theory since the 1980s, namely, literary activity theory, literary humanities theory, literary subject theory, rationalist and irrationalist literary theory, essentialist and anti-essentialist literary theory, rewriting literary history, ontology issues in literary history, and methodological issues in literary history. This paper cuts into the local evolution of contemporary Chinese literary theory from two perspectives, and then conducts an in-depth discussion on it, trying to outline the history, historical and current connotation of contemporary Chinese literary theory from one side. It also provides readers with an intellectual picture that can be used as a reference for understanding the subject concepts, knowledge structure, and evolutionary path of contemporary Chinese literary theory, and then grasping its inner logic.
