"Gui Lian Meng" has twelve chapters in total, and is titled "Edited by Master Su'an" and "Correction by Baixiangshan layman". The author's true identity and name are no longer known. It was produced around the late Ming Dynasty. The novel is about Bai Shuangshan and his wife, a villager in Tai'an Prefecture, Shandong Province in the Ming Dynasty. Due to drought and no harvest, they both starved to death, leaving behind a twelve-year-old daughter. One day, a monk passed through Tai'an Prefecture and saw Bai Shuangshan's daughter alone and helpless. He felt compassion for her and took her to Mount Tai to be adopted by a monk named Master Zhenru. Master Zhenru named her Lian'an.
