"Gui Lian Meng" has twelve chapters in total, and is titled "Edited by Master Su'an" and "Correction by Baixiangshan layman". The author's true identity and name are no longer known. It was produced around the late Ming Dynasty. The novel is about Bai Shuangshan and his wife, a villager in Tai'an Prefecture, Shandong Province in the Ming Dynasty. Due to drought and no harvest, they both starved to death, leaving behind a twelve-year-old daughter. One day, a monk passed through Tai'an Prefecture and saw Bai Shuangshan's daughter alone and helpless. He felt compassion for her and took her to Mount Tai to be adopted by a monk named Master Zhenru. Master Zhenru named her Lian'an. Lian'an has been practicing Buddhism under the guidance of Master Zhenru ever since. Six years later, when Lian'an was eighteen years old, she bid farewell to Master Zhenru, went down the mountain to visit Taoism, and founded her own school. On the way, she met a white ape great immortal who gave her a heavenly book called "White Lotus Sutra".
