Known as the "Three Musketeers of British Literature", Martin Amis, Ian McEwan and Julian Barnes all have profound urban cultural backgrounds and focus on contemporary London. Therefore, their works profoundly display the inherent contradictions and dilemmas of contemporary Western urban culture from multiple aspects, pointing out the spiritual disaster in Western urban culture caused by the overflow of instrumental rationality. This study carefully interprets the texts of the three writers, systematically and comprehensively explores the multiple dilemmas of contemporary Western urban culture from three aspects: the decline of ethics in contemporary Western culture, the value dilemma in contemporary Western culture, and the emotional ecology in contemporary Western culture. It also sorts out the value system and thinking logic behind the superficial prosperity of Western society, and reveals the ideological reality and spiritual reality behind the gorgeous appearance. This achievement constructs a multi-dimensional approach to Western cultural communication and cognition, and has important reference significance for how my country constructs a healthy value orientation.
