In May 1933, Ding Ling was arrested by Kuomintang agents and placed under house arrest in Nanjing with her then husband Feng Da until she left Nanjing in September 1936. Ding Ling's "historical issue" refers to the issue of Ding Ling's integrity during her three years of house arrest.
