About This Novel

In May 1933, Ding Ling was arrested by Kuomintang agents and placed under house arrest in Nanjing with her then husband Feng Da until she left Nanjing in September 1936. Ding Ling's "historical issue" refers to the issue of Ding Ling's integrity during her three years of house arrest. Ding Ling's historical issues have gone through six reviews at different historical stages from 1940 to 1984, resulting in six conclusions. In 1940, Ding Ling's historical issues were reviewed for the first time. In May 1936, Ding Ling went from Nanjing to Peking to search for party organizations, but failed and returned to Nanjing. In June 1936, Feng Xuefeng, the then head of the CCP in Shanghai, sent Zhang Tianyi to contact Ding Ling in Nanjing, and then Ding Ling came to Shanghai. Ding Ling said: "Feng Xuefeng came two or three days later, and he briefly asked me a few questions about the situation in Nanjing. I did not explain to him my mistakes in Nanjing."
