Honest Voice

The novel begins with Wu Youbin's promotion. This "old" policeman had been an educated youth and a soldier, and had worked as a civilian policeman, a criminal policeman, and then as a logistics worker in the city bureau. He had served as a police officer for more than 20 years and was finally promoted to deputy department when he was over 50 years old. Although the "Comprehensive Case Processing Center over the Years" was only a temporary supernumerary department. The department is responsible for sorting out the records of unsolved reported cases over the years, filing what should be filed, and ending what should be closed. If any hidden secrets or clues are found, we are ordered to handle them as appropriate. The director is concurrently served by Director Yu of the Logistics Support Department. In addition to deputy director Wu Youbin, there are only two police officers in the center: Ai Jing, who graduated in liberal arts, and Lu Xiaofei, who made mistakes and was demoted. There are false cases and false cases, real cases and false cases. Some cases have been solved and closed, while others have not been solved and are pending. Most of them are false cases, nothing at all, or just trivial matters. Among these cumbersome records, Ai Jing sorted out a special category, that is, disappearance cases.

This novel is based on the life experiences of several familiar seniors around the author when he was young, and unearths a little-known past event during the Anti-Japanese War. It is a rare and valuable "literary discovery". The book is told from the perspective of a young boy, Ah Sheng, in flashback, spanning nearly half a century, and witnesses the love, frustrations, entanglements and hopes of young people such as Aunt Hongji, Captain Yao, and Old Lu Bo who fought on the front line against Japan in the late 1930s. The whole novel runs through the emotional line of "Aunt Hongji" and lays many foreshadowings. It is not until the end of the novel that the dusty memory of Aunt Hongji before her death becomes clear. Finally, a secret plot of the hero and heroine is revealed, pushing the story and characters to the final climax. 2025 Marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's Anti-Japanese War. I would like to dedicate this book to the ancestors in my hometown who fought against foreign enemies and shed blood on the battlefield.
