This book is composed of two parts: "The Grass Crossing the River" and "The Change of the Fish". "The Grass Crossing the River" uses the development of Qiqiyeye's (father's) illness as a clue to connect the fate of the Qiqi family and its surrounding characters. "Fish Change" is based on the perspective of Xue Baobao's daughter in "Crossing the River", recording in detail what happened before and after Xue Baobao's death. Everyone in the story always has hope for life no matter what their circumstances are.
