This book is composed of two parts: "The Grass Crossing the River" and "The Change of the Fish". "The Grass Crossing the River" uses the development of Qiqiyeye's (father's) illness as a clue to connect the fate of the Qiqi family and its surrounding characters. Everyone in the story always has hope for life no matter what their circumstances are. In the passage of time and the continuation of life, like grass crossing the river, it shows a vigorous and endless power. It shows the growth of emotions between people bit by bit, shows the delicacy and romance of the countryside, and expresses the author's simple rural feelings by "moistening things silently".
