Mr. Luo Rongqu (1927-1996) was a famous historian and a pioneer in the study of China's modernization. In October 2017, the "Symposium to Commemorate the 90th Anniversary of the Birth of Professor Luo Rongqu and the Academic Seminar on Chinese Modernization Studies" was held. After the meeting, commemorative manuscripts and research papers were collected and compiled into this book. The first part reviews Professor Luo Rongqu's bumpy, rich and accomplished life, recalls his academic style and feelings for his family and country, and elucidates his outstanding contributions in various fields such as modernization studies, American history, Latin American history, and the history of Sino-foreign relations; the second part discusses the theoretical and empirical research issues in modernization studies and other fields involved in Mr. Luo Rongqu's academic work. This book has the dual significance of recalling characters and reviewing academic history. It has reference value for the current exploration of modernization research, historical theory and research methods.
