"Sister Carrie" is one of the important works of the American realist writer Dreiser, and is the companion piece to "Girl Jane". Carrie went to Chicago to visit relatives and met the salesman Drouet on the train. Unable to bear the hard life in the factory, Carrie lived with Drouet and met the hotel manager Hurstwood. Hurstwood was so obsessed with her beauty that he embezzled public funds and fled to New York with her to live together. Carrie performed on stage by chance and gradually gained success, while Hurstwood gradually fell into despair. The two broke up, and Hurstwood committed suicide. In March 1900, Dreiser completed the first draft of "Sister Carrie." For a century, "Sister Carrie" has always been a masterpiece that readers can't put down, although it has been criticized by some.
