Sister Carrier
by (us) Dresser
About This Novel
"Sister Carrie" is one of the important works of the American realist writer Dreiser, and is the companion piece to "Girl Jane". Carrie went to Chicago to visit relatives and met the salesman Drouet on the train. Unable to bear the hard life in the factory, Carrie lived with Drouet and met the hotel manager Hurstwood. Hurstwood was so obsessed with her beauty that he embezzled public funds and fled to New York with her to live together. Carrie performed on stage by chance and gradually gained success, while Hurstwood gradually fell into despair. The two broke up, and Hurstwood committed suicide. In March 1900, Dreiser completed the first draft of "Sister Carrie." For a century, "Sister Carrie" has always been a masterpiece that readers can't put down, although it has been criticized by some.

Every book is a lifetime encounter~
Every book has its own soul
Great book
I hope the manager just had a nightmare and woke up to find himself still sitting in a familiar office.
I understand Carrie's situation. Although I don't agree with them, I understand all her decisions and actions, including initially accepting Drouet's help, then being attracted to Hurstwood, and finally, her final abandonment of them.
Worth a read, simple story but won't bore you
Sister Jiali is so pitiful! Sometimes when people are so poor, even the cats and dogs around them will bully you when they see you. This Mr. Du is really a master of emotional intelligence!
not bad
Recommended, pretty good
I think Carrie was just immersed in the life and imagination she pursued, and she never thought about others. This character of hers was caused by poverty.
This book tells the story of Carrie who left her hometown alone to live in Chicago when she was eighteen years old. She longed for material life, so she left her hometown.
