坎特伯雷故事(译文名著精选)
(uk)geoffrey Chaucer
"The Canterbury Tales" is a collection of verse stories, mostly written in rhymed verse. The book contains a general quotation and twenty-three stories, two of which are prose and the rest are in poetry. It tells the strange stories that a group of pilgrims told to relieve their boredom on their way to Canterbury. This group of people come from all walks of life, including priests, warriors, nuns, college students, craftsmen, etc. Their stories also broadly reflect the social scene at that time. The work uses humor and satire as the keynote, depicts characters from different classes, satirizes the ugliness of feudal society, exposes the corruption of society, opposes asceticism, and promotes worldly enjoyment. Short dramatic scenes are connected in between. The content and style of the stories are different and suit the identity of each narrator.
