This book tells the story of a talented painter's great joy when creating, but also reflects his inner melancholy and the great grief of losing two important people in his life. Love and friendship are the two highlights of this book, as well as Monet's two regrets. These two important figures, one is named Bazille, who was Monet's friend when he was young and was also a painter. He was born in a wealthy family and participated in the Franco-Prussian War and later died on the battlefield; the other is named Camille, who was Monet's favorite model and later became his lover. The year Bazille died, Monet married Camille, who bore him two children and died of cancer seven years later.
