About This Novel

This book tells the story of a talented painter's great joy when creating, but also reflects his inner melancholy and the great grief of losing two important people in his life. Love and friendship are the two highlights of this book, as well as Monet's two regrets. These two important figures, one is named Bazille, who was Monet's friend when he was young and was also a painter. He was born in a wealthy family and participated in the Franco-Prussian War and later died on the battlefield; the other is named Camille, who was Monet's favorite model and later became his lover. The year Bazille died, Monet married Camille, who bore him two children and died of cancer seven years later. From the Mediterranean coast to the seaside of La Manche, from London to the Netherlands, from Ile-de-France to Normandy; from the siege of Paris in 1870 to the Second World War, love and death have been lingering in the painter's mind, accompanying him to the end of his life.
