In the interstellar age, countless species stand side by side.
To protect Blue Star, Ying Ge is locked in a fierce fight with aliens.
Just as the battle reaches a stalemate, a beastfolk starship drops into the battlefield, gulps Ying Ge down in one bite, and takes off.

His fists clench tight, and his sharp gaze sweeps toward the culprit--then he falls silent.
A fiery red fox with airplane ears looks at him with tearful eyes, while a chibi octopus sits on its head.
The fox whimpers twice, then actually speaks: "Your Majesty! We've finally found you!"

The beastfolk have been without a king for too long.
So long that the Joint Council has issued a notice: if the beastfolk still have no king to oversee them by the next meeting, they will be expelled by the other species.
The beastfolk will no longer be invited to the Joint Council!
To keep the beastfolk from being isolated, their marshal, who holds a position equivalent to deputy king, sacrificed himself in exchange for one last sign.
The beastfolk searched for many years before finding Ying Ge, their yet-to-awaken king.
But Ying Ge refuses the crown, insisting that this is kidnapping.
The little octopus hops in front of Ying Ge and pushes aside the fox, who can only cry.
It puts on a serious expression. "You don't have to be king of the beastfolk. Just help us get through the Joint Council."
The little octopus promises, "Whether we succeed or not, we'll send you home and help Blue Star."
Ying Ge doesn't need help from other species. He steels himself--
The little octopus flops to the ground with a splat, melts into a puddle right before his eyes, and lies there, barely breathing.

Remembering the companions he'd fought alongside, he still couldn't bring himself to harden his heart.
He saves the little octopus, earning the fox's adoration and an octopus accessory that says, "I'll repay your life-saving kindness many times over."
Ying Ge still keeps a cold expression. He tells the little octopus this is emotional blackmail.

Marshal You Jie is, in his true form, much like a giant deep-sea octopus.
With eight tentacles plus himself, he has nine brains in all and does the work of nine people. Among the beastfolk, he holds a position equivalent to deputy king.
To escape the endless labor, You Jie suddenly went mad.
He entered a forbidden area, cut off and sealed away his tentacles, which turned into eight juvenile octopuses and fell into a deep sleep.
No one expected that a king who had been lost outside their lands--and who they accused of emotional blackmail--would awaken the consciousness of You Jie's mad transformation.
And turn the marshal's coldest, most merciless tentacle, the one that loved to hit people, into a cute accessory and a loyal lackey.
The beastfolk wept with joy.

At the Joint Council, the other species finally meet the king of the beastfolk.
Day one: Ying Ge has a pale pink little octopus perched on his left shoulder and a fluffy black-faced, white-furred lamb in his arms.
Day two: Ying Ge has a deep blue little octopus perched on his right shoulder and a tiger cub in his arms.
Day three, day four...
Aside from the octopus on his shoulder, which keeps changing color, every fluffy creature he holds is different.
The other species are speechless.
Don't think they haven't noticed that those cubs are the beastfolk's law enforcers, lords of the four regions, and administrators!
So what if he has a king? Have they no shame!

"You aren't the king of the beastfolk."
At the council, the king of the mechanical race flashes with rainbow lights and coldly accuses him: "You're human."
Ying Ge: "Get off my hand first."
The other species erupt in an uproar.
The beastfolk are even more anxious.
Only Ying Ge knows that after crossing the vastness of space, he must eventually return to the most desolate place in the universe.
Facing the doubts of the other species and the beastfolk's unwavering defense of him, Ying Ge only smiles.
"It's time to change the rules of the Joint Council."
The people he leads will eventually stand at the pinnacle of the universe.
