After the class reshuffle in their second year of high school, Zhu Yunsui, ranked first in the grade, and Fu Anyu, ranked third, ended up in the same class. They fell for each other, but later Fu Anyu was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
To spare Zhu Yunsui the pain, he hid his illness, but died the day before the college entrance exams. Zhu Yunsui only found out after the exams. Heartbroken, she decided to study medicine.
Years later, during the pandemic, Zhu Yunsui went to help with relief efforts. She became infected and died, too.
"Yunsui, I'm sorry I can't stay with you until the end."
"Fu Anyu, you lied to me. You promised we'd go to university together, but you broke your promise."
