I wrote this story first to make myself happy, and second to give my thoughts a place to go, which is another way of making an excuse to do what makes me happy. Before I started planning this story, a lot of people wanted me to write about Shikamaru, so I created a frivolous but loyal man to play the part. That's how I avoided getting to know Nara Shikamaru, though I thought I already knew him. Back then, I thought he was boring, because I believed he and I were alike. I trusted myself too easily. The truth is that we're not alike at all: he can easily go against the grain of life and keep moving forward on sheer momentum, while I have gradually turned life into a weight I must bear, rough and unpeeled. In other words, he doesn't think, and he isn't wise, at least not as wise as his father. That's what I think. That's the blurb for this story. I hope everyone reading this will form their own judgment about what follows and won't be too surprised by the Nara Shikamaru I write. *Bows.*
