The Little Snake Only Wants to Be the Top Scholar's Wife

Liuliu is a three-month-old green snake, the sixth child in his family. He loves precious jewels and storybooks most of all, and his greatest dream is to cultivate a human form and enjoy a life of wealth and luxury.

Influenced by the stories he reads, Liuliu neglects his cultivation and spends every day dreaming of becoming a top scholar's wife someday.

Longing for the human world, he nearly gets beaten to death after someone mistakes him for a bamboo viper. Liuliu vows that he'll never love anyone again!

After a hard lesson, Liuliu heads into the mountains, only to nearly get chopped to death again.

But this time, his benefactor saves him.

His benefactor seems to glow with divine light, the very picture of a celestial being. Liuliu immediately clings to his fingertip and acts cute, deciding that maybe he can love again after all. He's a snake with boundless love, after all.

His benefactor smiles and asks him, “Are you a little snake or a little dog?”

Halfway through acting cute, Liuliu is dazzled by the jade pendant at his benefactor's waist. When he wakes up, this useless snake has somehow taken human form, and he's clutching a jade pendant in his hand.

Now human, Liuliu is taken in by a kind young master, who turns out to be someone important: the illegitimate son of the Prime Minister. To let the young master study in peace and become the top scholar, Liuliu, his future scholar's wife, volunteers to go to the Yue residence in his place.

From then on, he is Yue Zhongyun.

The Yue family recently brought home the shameful illegitimate son, a fool with nothing going for him but his good looks.

Fate always picks on the unfortunate. At school, Liuliu is ostracized by the legitimate young master and his cousin, the heir to the Duke of Zhenguo.

At a family banquet, the Duchess of Zhenguo points at the legitimate young master with a smile. “Who is he to you?”

Liuliu glances at him. “My older brother.”

Then the Duchess points at the heir and asks, “Since your brother and my son are cousins, what should you call him?”

The heir lazily props his chin on his hand, tapping his fingers on the table now and then. He looks indifferent, but there's a smile in his eyes as he watches Liuliu.

Liuliu answers, reluctantly, “Cousin.”

Liuliu feels like crying. Ever since he entered the residence, everyone around him has been picking on him. Back when he was a snake, he could eat meat all the time. Now, it's vegetables and tofu at every meal. One day, he finds a dried mouse and is just roasting it when the legitimate young master and his annoying cousin catch him.

They take his dried mouse away. Liuliu resents the legitimate young master for always making things difficult for him, so he decides to push him into the water on purpose. Instead, he falls into the river himself.

Glug, glug...

Someone pulls Liuliu ashore. After he spits out a few mouthfuls of water, he spots, through blurry eyes, a jade pendant exactly like his benefactor's.

He immediately cries out for his benefactor and throws himself at him.

Below is the blurb for the upcoming novel, “Captive Pet”:

Jiang Qiu was frail from childhood. To help him grow up safely, his family gave him the Buddhist name Miaozhen and registered him at a temple as a girl, hoping to fool the Black and White Impermanence so they wouldn't take away their precious child.

The ploy accidentally saved Jiang Qiu's life. When his family was wiped out, he alone escaped death, only to end up homeless and living in constant fear.

Two months later, Jiang Qiu stumbled to the gates of his enemies' residence, intending to take them down with him. But a dense crowd pressed him to his knees. He heard the festive wedding music and the laughter all around him.

He looked up and realized the Emperor had arranged a marriage: the Crown Prince was to wed this family's daughter and make her his Crown Princess.

He heard people nearby discussing how the Zhang family were already relatives of the imperial family, and now the Emperor was bestowing favors on them, bringing glory to the whole clan. They were at the height of their power.

Suddenly, Jiang Qiu no longer wanted to die.

Good and evil had yet to be repaid. How could he die?

--

After losing his family and home, Jiang Qiu became the Crown Prince's captive pet.

Everyone in the Eastern Palace thought the Crown Prince had brought home a fragile, helpless parasitic vine. No one expected him to be a beautiful snake.

The beautiful snake wants to take lives, but the kind and generous Crown Prince insists Jiang Qiu is merely a lonely, innocent, good-hearted child, and indulges and pities him at every turn.

When the truth comes out, Jiang Qiu stops pretending altogether. He gives up and turns on the Crown Prince, hurling abuse at him.

Everyone in the Eastern Palace breathes a sigh of relief. At last! The Crown Prince can finally see how vicious and wicked this captive pet is!

Jiang Qiu thinks he's done for, too. But the Crown Prince doesn't kill him. Instead, he has nourishing medicine sent over every day and personally makes sure Jiang Qiu takes it.

Jiang Qiu is almost moved by the Crown Prince.

Until he realizes his belly is growing bigger by the day.
