At a beef noodle shop, a huge screen was showing the Gu family's inheritance dispute. Xu Mao was thoroughly enjoying the five young masters' various scheming battles. He didn't have to worry about anything like that. There was only 1,000 yuan in his bankbook, and he was an orphan, so no one was going to fight him for it.
After slurping down his last mouthful of noodles, Su Mao picked up a kettle and went to work on the production line, studying hard while earning his keep.
A luxury car stopped in front of Xu Mao. A group of bodyguards in black got out. "Welcome home, Sixth Young Master Gu!"
"Huh? Me?" Still dazed, Su Mao was pulled into the car.
At the seaside villa, Mr. and Mrs. Gu held him and wept, apologizing and promising to love him twice as much from then on. His five older brothers put aside their disputes and made peace, at least for the time being, for the sake of their poor little brother.
That evening, everyone gathered for dinner.
Su Mao sat stiffly, afraid to reach for his chopsticks.
To his left, a fox spirit (the eldest brother) was fighting a cat spirit (the second brother). To his right, a spider spirit with a leg span of two meters (Mrs. Gu) was tearing into bloody beef with her mandibles.
"Sweetie, would you like a piece? The beef is especially fresh today."
Su Mao: "No, thanks."
In front of him sat Mr. Gu, the only monster who looked even remotely respectable: a red-scaled dragon.
Su Mao: "Our family sure has a diverse range of species."
A dragon claw ruffled his hair. "Not that many. I can't wait to see what kind of spirit you'll turn into when you come of age."
Su Mao trembled. He was certain he was human. This family had probably mistaken him for their child. This was terrifying. Maybe he should just come clean.
"Uncle, actually, I..."
Mr. Gu stuffed a wad of cash into Su Mao's hand. "Now that you're home, don't call me Uncle. Call me Dad."
"Dad! After all these years wandering, I finally have a home!" Su Mao happily pocketed the money.
Who cared? Being a fake young master who just sat back and collected money sounded pretty good.
The real young master, who loved spying on people: "This idiot is the one who replaced me?!"
